Banana Blueberry Smoothie

Ideal as a breakfast, this nutrient dense smoothie is a simple way to ensure your daily dose of soy, flaxseed, antioxidants, potassium and greens.

Amla is Indian gooseberry, one of the richest natural sources of vitamin C, and it adds a pleasant sourness to the otherwise sweet mixture. One gooseberry contains 2000 mg vitamin C. This breakfast is a very rich source of protective antioxidants. In the winter time in Canada I warm the berries first on the stove so that the overall temperature is warm, not cold.

Ingredients

1 banana
1/2 c frozen blueberries, organic (can substitute strawberries, raspberries or a mixture)
1 kiwi
1 T freshly ground flaxseeds
1 T fermented organic soy protein powder
1 t flaxseed oil
2 t powdered greens (i.e. greens plus)
2 t amla powder (from organic traditions), optional
1/2 c liquid – either water, green tea, soy milk or almond milk

Directions

Use an electric coffee grinder to grind the flaxseeds.
Puree all ingredients in a blender, adding as much of the liquid ingredients at the end for desired consistency. I prefer it thick, like a pudding, with no added fluid, while others like to drink it.
Chew thoroughly before swallowing to improve digestion and absorption.
