Cancer and pH

Universal_indicator_paper

The external pH of solid tumors is acidic because of increased metabolism of glucose. Acid pH stimulates tumor cell invasion and metastasis. Oral NaHCO(3) (sodium bicarbonate) increases the pH of tumors and reduces the formation of spontaneous metastases in mouse models of metastatic breast cancer. NaHCO(3) therapy also reduces the rate of lymph node involvement and liver metastases.
