Menopausal Symptoms

black cohosh rootExtracts of the rootstock of Black cohosh contain biologically active constituents as triterpene glycosides (actein, cimicifugoside, deoxyacetein), isoferulic acid and alkaloids (n-methylcytisine). Recent data has demonstrated that Black Cohosh may reduce hot flashes due to its effects on modulating the activity of the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine. Black Cohosh significantly reduced frequency or severity of hot flashes and any adverse symptoms have been rare, mild and reversible.
Yoga classes which included breathing techniques, postures, and relaxation poses improved the frequency and severity of hot flashes, and improved sleep, when women attended a class once weekly and practiced 15 minutes daily at home.
